Episode 32: Knightly Debate

While waiting, Warwick pulls out his knife.

Upon inspection, he notices the blade is cracked throughout.

"Of course, I should have expected the durability to be nill."

He waits a bit longer, as Avelin teleports back in.

"Hey! So what-" Warwick starts to ask, as Avelin grabs him by the collar and presses him against the wall.

"Tell me what you know! RIGHT NOW!"

"Did something go wrong?"

"That's not an answer!" She yells, pushing him against the wall with more and more force.

"I- can- n't- breathe!"

"Avelin!" Talvish yells, seeming to have appeared with Altam whilst neither was looking.

Avelin drops Warwick, who starts gasping for breath while holding his throat.

"He's been right. Shouldn't we trust him?" Altam asks.

"He knows more then he should. It's like he's lived through everything, and is trying to figure out when he showed up. Yet, he doesn't seem prepared for what he did."

"I'm not. I'm years behind where I should be. And I'm hundreds of thousands of gold short of what I need to pull this off. I need help to save this world I love. Will you help?"

"Will you tell us what's going on?" Avelin asks.

"I have read a fantasy story about a wizard that finds a spell to go back in time and destroyed the future. Is it something like that? Also, what do you need right now?" Altam inquires.

"He said 27 thousand gold and transportation to the Hillwen mines. He's also not a member of the Alban Knights, in case you need reminding," Talvish informs.

"I have that. I can get him there," Altam suggests.

Warwick smiles at him, "Thank you Altam, I knew I could count on you."

"This is insane! How do you even have that much?" Avelin asks, obviously annoyed by this situation.

"I've been saving up for a long time, though I don't have much more than that."

Warwick avoids eye contact upon hearing that.

"You feel bad about taking advantage of his generosity?" Talvish asks.

Altam starts to abject to that, as Talvish holds up his hand.

"I do, though I'm also considering the fact that he is among the ones that die if I fail."

Altam gumps at hearing that.

"So, how do you plan to protect yourself? It's dangerous out there, and you can't defend yourself," Avelin inquires.

"Demoko, my pet wolfman. He's strong, and he's starting to grasp magic."

Altam and Talvish just stare at him, mouths agape.

"I can summon him, he's really nice!" Warwick sheepishly states, trying to ease the conversation forward.

Talvish looks at Avelin, who's glaring at Warwick, then states, "So, I thought I was good at taking jokes, but this one isn't sitting well."

"It's not a joke. He's likely the one to make the difference between me saving people, and me just coming back thanks to the Soul Stream, surrounded by the bodies of my comrades. He's also part of the deal."

"What deal!" Avelin yells.

"The whole convince me to save the world thing. We've been talking about it all night."

"I would choose my words wisely if I was you," Talvish hints.

"Yeah, I'm exhausted of having to always watch what I say. I've already proven myself, and I'm getting fed up with a false leverage you're trying to push on me. If I die, I still live. If you all die, y'all stay dead. Sure, I won't even try to hurt you, but if you don't help me, I'm the only one that survives. Those are the facts. Now, we've already worked out a plan, and you have the means to help me. The hopes of the world rest in this decision from you, for I will fail to save everyone on my own if I try my best. What is your decision?" Warwick lays down the law, dropping all pretense of playing nice.

Everyone just stares at him in shock.

Altam gulps before hesitantly speaking, "I'll still help. I don't think we have a lot of options."

"Wherever you're getting your information, someone saved everyone. How do you know it's you?" Talvish asks, trying to move the conversation forward.

"Because the person reading the information IS the one who has to save everyone. The d- My sources would have me be far stronger when I got to this point. I'm honestly not sure I can pull this off."

"If Avelin agrees, Pihne already believes you to be worthy, and I agree, that'll be enough for you to become an Alban Knight. It's up to you Avelin," Talvish informs.

"I don't trust him."

"He's proven he's telling the truth. I don't trust him either, but we can't let our judgments bring the world's destruction." Talvish conveys.

"I'm right here!" Warwick yells.

"You'll get used to the higher-ups talking about you while you're around," Altam comforts.

"Fine. But if he slips up, I'll serve him his punishment myself," Avelin agrees, but in such a way to send shivers down everyone's spine.

"Then let's get on this. I'm ready when you are Altam,"

"You have the clear to go," Avelin informs.

Altam nods his head, grabs Warwick's shoulder, pulls out a Waxen Wing, and they teleport.

They arrive in a field of snow.

A stone structure to the south, and a cave with two giant guards in front to the north.

Wild dingos can be seen on the west, but they seem to be a safe distance away.
